|

Republican Christina Barr was defeated by Democrat Brenda Lawrence Tuesday in the race to fill the Congressional seat held by Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.).

Peters, who has served in the U.S. House since 2009, ran for Senate this year against Republican Terri Lynn Land and won.

Lawrence is currently the mayor of the Detroit suburb of Southfield.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Brenda Lawrence defeated Christina Conyers for Peters' seat. She defeated Christina Barr.
