On a warm Wednesday night in New York, powerful women turned out in droves for The White House Project's 2010 EPIC Awards to celebrate women's leadership in media and popular culture. The White House Project, according to their website, is "a national, nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization, 501(c)(3), aims to advance women's leadership in all communities and sectors, up to the U.S. presidency."
Attendees of the April 7th dinner included Meryl Streep, who presented the Global Trailblazer Award to Kiran Bedi for the film Yes Madam, Sir, Megan Mullally and husband Nick Offerman (star of "Parks & Recreation"), Jill Scott, 14-year-old fashion blogger Tavi, Beacon Award recipient Sheryl WuDunn, The New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. and former Essence editor-in-chief Susan Taylor.
Mullally was the evening's MC, who upon introducing the event's most anticipated guest, told the audience "In times of moral quandary, I often ask myself, 'What Would Meryl Streep Do?'"
Moments later Streep took the stage and asked the audience rhetorically "What would Meryl Streep do?" She then reached under her silk blouse, pulled up her bra straps and, with dramatic delivery, said: "Adjust."
The crowd roared.
