President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle hosted this year's Kennedy Center Honors in D.C. on Sunday night.

Oprah Winfrey, Beatle Paul McCartney, dancer-choreographer Bill T. Jones, country singer Merle Haggard and Broadway composer Jerry Herman each earned the arts awards not only for their talents, but also for bringing people together, the Associated Press writes.

For the occasion, Michelle wore a beaded scarlet gown by Naeem Khan and silver earrings.
