An important rule of advertising: where an ad appears is just as important as what it says. Seems simple enough, but few ads (online ads at least) enjoy the luxury of being placed by a real person. In many cases, where an ad appears is determined by an automatic placement system, which allows it to pop up anywhere on a site. Often, this puts advertisers and websites in some very awkward situations.

In celebration of automatic ad placement services and the failures they produce, we looked around for some of the worst ad placements. And we found some old-fashioned TV and billboard fails, too (even sadder). Check out our favorites below:
