U.S. News has released their annual report of the Best Children's Hospitals. In putting together the list, they found that out of nearly 5,000 hospitals in the U.S., only 1 in 30 has expertise in treating kids with serious conditions. Eighty outstanding institutions, however, were honored.

Results were based on a survey of 178 pediatric centers, and the publication sought to "obtain clinical data in 10 specialties." They also interviewed 150 pediatric specialists to find out which locations they trust most. Each hospital on the list was recognized for excellence in at least one of ten specialties including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, and twelve made the “Honor Roll.” These outstanding institutions ranked highest in at least three specialties. U.S. News ordered the top 12 by points (“2 points if they ranked in the top 5 percent of all hospitals in a specialty and 1 point if they ranked in the top 6 to 10 percent”).
