Celebrity Divorces That Were Supposedly Amicable...But Weren't
Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian (01 of05)

In October 2011, Kim Kardashian filed to divorce basketball player Kris Humphries after just 72 days of marriage. The reality star said in a statement to E!: "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."But their split turned out to be less-than-friendly when Humphries filed for an annulment on the basis of fraud in November 2011. Lawyers for both parties have since accused each other of unnecessarily dragging out the divorce proceedings, which have lasted far longer than the estranged couple's quickie marriage. (credit:AP)

In December 2011, Russell Brand filed to divorce Katy Perry, after just 14 months of marriage. In a statement, Brand said of the split: "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends." The split was supposedly so amicable that Perry even signed the divorce docs with a smiley face. And although Brand has spoken very highly of his now ex-wife, there was some speculation that Perry didn't feel the same way. In a February 2012 Grammys performance, the pop star changed up the lyrics to her single "Part of Me" to include a reference to her broken marriage: "So you can keep the diamond ring/It don't mean anything/In fact you can keep everything, yeah yeah/Except for me." She later told MTV news that the song was written before they were married (but she didn't explain the changed lyric!) (credit:AP)
Heidi Klum and Seal(03 of05)

Heidi Klum and Seal announced their split to much surprise in January 2012. At the time, they released a joint statement that read: "This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition. We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support." But several months later, the supposed "amicable process" turned ugly when Seal told TMZ that he wished his estranged wife would have waited until they were separated before she decided to "fornicate with the help," referring to Klum's relationship with bodyguard Martin Kristen. Seal's publicist later clarified his statement, insisting that he did not mean to imply that Klum cheated while they were married. Klum denied the allegations in an interview with Katie Couric, calling Seal's comment a "unique choice of words." (credit:AP)
Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin (04 of05)

Kim Basinger filed to divorce Alec Baldwin in 2001. At the time, People magazine reported that "Friends characterized the split as 'amicable.' Says one, Hamptons restaurateur Colin Ambrose. 'I don't see this as being some really nasty thing.'" Their divorce was finalized in 2002 after nine years of marriage. But their bitter custody battle over their daughter Ireland proved to be far from amicable. Baldwin accused his estranged wife of a "pathological need" to turn their daughter against him, while Basinger once accused him of having "legendary" behavior problems. After a nasty voicemail to his daughter was leaked in 2007, his visitation rights were temporarily revoked. (credit:AP)
Heather Mills and Paul McCartney (05 of05)

Heather Mills and Paul McCartney called it quits in 2006 after four years of marriage. In a statement announcing their separation, they said: "Our parting is amicable and both of us still care about each other very much but have found it increasingly difficult to maintain a normal relationship with constant intrusion into our private lives, and we have actively tried to protect the privacy of our child."But as soon as money came into play, it was clear that there was nothing amicable about their parting. During the divorce proceedings, Mills and McCartney hurled accusations at one another -- she accused him of abuse and sabotaging her career and he accused her of bugging his phone. And in 2008, Mills poured a glass of water on McCartney's divorce attorney's head. Despite requesting a $250 million divorce settlement, Mills walked away with a still-handsome $48.6 million.
