8 Hawaii Waterfalls That Will Enchant Your Pants Off

Waterfalls in Hawaii are kind of like Starbucks in Manhattan: Sometimes it feels like there's one around every corner.

Heavy, unpredictable rains and sheer mountain ranges combine to create some of the Aloha State's most stunning spectacles, but though they are many, not all waterfalls are created equal. Below, we've selected eight of Hawaii's most majestic waterfalls, for your viewing pleasure.

Papalaua Falls, Molokai
The island of Molokai is home to the highest sea cliffs in the world, and with those sheer cliffs come some unbelievable waterfalls -- most of them best seen from a helicopter. Papalaua Falls, located on the island's north shore, is particularly impressive.

Hanakapi'ai Falls, Kauai
The hike to Hanakapi'ai Falls is relatively long and can be slippery, so be ready for a challenge. Though this hike may be difficult, the general consensus is a resounding "WORTH IT."

Manoa Falls, Oahu
One of the best things about the island of Oahu is discovering hidden natural gems in the heart of crowded Honolulu. Nestled around the foot of the Ko'olau mountain range in the back of Manoa Valley lies Manoa Falls, one of the most popular waterfall destinations on the island.

Akaka Falls, Big Island
Perhaps the Big Island's most well-known waterfall, Akaka Falls draws visitors from around the world. The dramatic, 442-foot falls is located just outside Hilo, which gets between 130 to 200 inches of rain each year. As you might imagine, that means the consistently gushing falls never disappoints.

Maunawili Falls, Oahu
The only thing better than Maunawili Falls is the journey to get there. Though the waterfall itself is relatively small and serene, the hike to reach it is a beautiful, intermediate trek through lush rainforest. But consider yourself warned: there will be mud.

Wailua Falls, Kauai
As is the case with most things on Kauai, Wailua falls is borderline too beautiful. Often, the spray from the falls results in vivid rainbows, which makes for ridiculously idyllic photo ops. The popular double waterfall is also easily accessible, with a parking lot overlooking the falls.

Hi'ilawe and Hakalaoa Falls, Big Island
These side-by-side waterfalls are tucked into the back of Waipio Valley, on the Big Island's north shore. Known as the Valley of the Kings, Waipio Valley was home to King Kamehameha I during his early years.

Waimoku Falls
The Pipiwai Trail hike to Waimoku Falls (one of the final stops on the Road to Hana) is thought by many to be the best hike on Maui. One of the most unique aspects of this well-maintained hike is the thick bamboo that flanks much of the trail. Though there's no swimming hole at the base of this waterfall, the spectacular view makes it a must-see.
