In 2006, Louis Marinelli was outraged by same-sex marriage. He soon joined the National Organization for Marriage and lobbied against marriage equality. However, his work brought him into contact with LGBT individuals, which lead to a dramatic change of heart. He remembered thinking "(w)hat am I doing here? This is stupid. I remember calling myself stupid when I realized that I had dedicated myself to taking away people's rights."
