Since the economic downturn, everyone has been talking about short-selling, a practice that bets on the failure of American institutions. It has been of particular interest to those who blame it for devaluing companies and putting people out of their jobs. But how does it work?

Samantha Bee answered that question for us last night in her "Money Honey Bee" segment and ended up making this analogy about the practice to a short-seller:

"Just because you robbed the grave, doesn't mean you killed the guy."

Jon Stewart took on Jim Cramer last week in part for his video confession that he engaged in short-selling:

"I would encourage anyone in a hedge fund to do it because it's legal, uh a very quick way to make money and very satisfying. By the way, no one else in the world would ever admit that..."
