Marc Ambinder of GQ revealed on Monday the secret service code names chosen by Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Romney decided on "Javelin" and Santorum went with "Petrus."
Santorum discussed his secret service code name Monday night with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren and confirmed that he chose Petrus. He said he liked it because "Petrus" is Latin for "Peter" -- the Americanized name of his grandfather Pietro -- and "rock."
He also dinged Romney's code name. "I understand they named it after an American Motors car. I remember the Javelin. It was a very unusual car, so I think it sort of fits," he said. The Javelin was a muscle car that competed with the Ford Mustang and was manufactured by American Motors Corporation, which Romney's father led before being elected governor of Michigan.
Romney began receiving secret service protection on Feb. 1, while Santorum's protection began on Feb. 28.
President Barack Obama's code name is "Renegade," First Lady Michelle Obama is "Renaissance," Malia Obama is "Radiance" and Sasha Obama is "Rosebud."
