When Jim DeMint announced his resignation from the senate on Thursday, there was one name on everyone's lips: Stephen Colbert. The internet lit up with calls for South Carolina governor Nikki Haley to appoint the "Report" host as DeMint's successor, and on his show that night, it seemed Colbert also couldn't think of a better replacement.
"You want somebody young, somebody conservative, somebody from South Carolina, maybe somebody who had a Super PAC..."
Obvious choice aside, Colbert still has to convince Governor Haley to do the right thing. For that, he called upon his fans to take to twitter and let the governor know why he should be the next Senator from the Palmetto state using the hashtag #SenatorColbert.
Watch Colbert address his potential bid above and let us know why you think he would make a great senator in the comments.
