Hooded sweatshirts, or hoodies, are easy-to-wear, certainly comfortable, and come in a myriad of styles and colors...and they represent an iconic fashion trend, if you ask WWD. Designer Rick Owens remarked, "I like the simplicity and universal application: Christ wore a hood, the Unabomber wore a hood, Grace Jones wore a hood, Dante wore a hood," and fashion curator Sonnet Stanfill called hoodies "part of the urban wardrobe."
Owens put draped hoods on his spring runway and Stanfill, who works for the Victoria & Albert Museum in London recently acquired a crystal studded hoodie made by Sean "Diddy" Combs, which illustrates the importance of the garment.
And of course, there's also American Apparel's wide selection of hooded sweatshirts that is perhaps the most well-known hoodie brand among the hip.
"The F4597 Flex Fleece Zip Hoodie is the most popular style of hoodie for us. One new style that we think is next on the radar for men and women is the Dov's Hoodie," American Apparel's Communications Officer Ryan Holiday told WWD.
