Mother Nature sure was is an amazing woman. As the final phase of the New7Wonders of Nature project, a global movement to create seven symbols of natural heritage, gets underway with the 28 finalists now selected, we are reminded of all the whimsical splendors nature has to offer.

So, we're indulging our fetish for the aesthetically pleasing with these natural beauties. The world doesn't have seven wonders, it has seven million.

Kilimanjaro, Kenya(01 of05)

Mount KIlimanjaro is a perennially snow-capped beauty. Standing at a mesmerizing 5,895 metres (19,336 feet) above sea level it is one of the highest freestanding mountains in the world. This magnificent beast is a world in itself, home to three volcanoes, lush rainforests, heaths and moorlands, alpines and deserts and glaciers at the summit.

Angel Falls is the highest waterfall in the world, cascading from a vertiginous 1,002 metres, it is a staggering 19 times higher than Niagara Falls. The waterfall is named after Jimmie Angel, a US aviator who was the first to fly over the falls in a plane. The waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyantepui mountain in the Canaima National Park along Venezuela’s border with Brazil. Before reaching the ground most of the water dissipates to a dreamy mist.
Somoto Canyon National Monument, Nicaragua(03 of05)

The Somoto Canyon is an ancient natural wonder, having been formed five to 13 million years ago. Despite its grand old age it is only a very recent discovery, having been relatively unexplored until a group of scientists from the Czech Republic and Nicaragua discovered the canyon in 2004.

Named after the Roman Goddess of dawn; Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas, the Aurora Borealis is one of the most magical natural wonders on earth. Myriads of colour whisper through the Scandinavian night sky, and can be seen throughout Europe and the US during very large auroral events.

China Danxia spans six subtropical areas approximately 310 miles southwest of Xi'an, home of the terra-cotta warriors. Red sandstone pillars, ravines, and other fantastical shapes recall Mars more than they do southwestern China.
