WESTMINSTER, England
In another classic example of shiftless, taxpayer-supported mooching, a young, unempolyed British couple recently announced their plans to have a child and continue living unapologetically off the state. As one might expect, this has caused quite a worldwide frenzy. The couple, who lives in state-subsidized housing, relies almost exclusively on government handouts and flaunts this lifestyle openly, has shared no plans to seek employment.
It would seem that the unnamed couple seems totally unconcerned with having a welfare baby.
Fortunately, this might just prove to be a galvanizing moment in England where, like much of Europe, financial insecurity looms. For many, this echoes a moment 1976, when Ronald Reagan gave the U.S. a similar diabolical, unscrupulous culprit to rally against. The following is his description of an unnamed welfare queen:
"There's a woman in Chicago," Reagan said, according to an article in the now-defunct Washington Star. "She has 80 names, 30 addresses, 12 Social Security cards. ... She's got Medicaid, getting food stamps and she is collecting welfare under each of her names. Her tax-free cash income alone is over $150,000."
One can only hope that the England has better luck shaming these miscreants into gainful employment.
