Sophie Theallet, Michelle Obama And CFDA Favorite, Says She'll Do Knits Next

After one of Michelle Obama's favorite designers, Sophie Theallet, scooped up the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, we wondered how she would put the $200,000 prize to use. Theallet supplied The New York Times with a possible answer:

"I want to do some knits," Ms. Theallet said. Early in her career, in France, she designed knits for Jean Paul Gaultier and then worked as an assistant to Azzedine Alaia, with whom she is still close. "I learned a lot about knitwear."

Well, 'tis the season, Sophie! We can easily imagine Michelle Obama, bundled up in a striped sweater and matching hat.

Theallet will also have the opportunity to work with a mentor as part of her prize and she said she has her eye on Oscar de la Renta.
