Jamawn Woods has had a rocky year. First, Woods wins America's Next Great Restaurant and, as his prize, gets to open three outposts of his winning restaurant concept, Soul Daddy. In under two months, all three locations shutter. It is unclear exactly how the whole kerfuffle went down, and exactly what Woods' role was, but all hope has not been lost. Soul Daddy shall rise again.
This spring, Woods is opening a Soul Daddy in his home town of Detroit, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He has no regrets about being on the NBC show and is excited that the Detroit version will be "all me." But for this go-round, he's adding fried chicken and nixing some of the health food, which not-so-subtly ignores the advice of the show's judges to lighten up his fare. If the Detroit Soul Daddy is successful, Woods is somewhat proving that despite being the show's winner, healthy food is not always a winning concept.
