Virginia Election 2012: Obama, Mitt Romney In Dead Heat For 13 Electoral Votes (LIVE UPDATES)

Obama, Romney In Dead Heat For Virginia's 13 Electoral Votes

In the Virginia election, 13 electoral votes are at stake.

Barack Obama and Mitt Romney were running neck-and-neck in the presidential battleground going into Election Day, according to the latest polls.

Reuters recently reported:

But one of the most important figures in the 2012 election in Virginia is not even on the ballot.

He is the current governor, Republican Bob McDonnell, whose efforts to move the party to the right in the politically divided state - most notably by restricting abortions -- have energized conservative Christians, alienated other voters and made Virginia a focal point in what Democrats call a "war on women" by Republicans.

McDonnell's push has become an intriguing backdrop in a crucial state in the tight races for the White House and control of the U.S. Senate in the November 6 election.

The Virginia Senate race for the seat being vacated by Democratic Sen. Jim Webb was looking extremely tight going into Election Day. The latest polls show former Gov. Tim Kaine, the Democratic contender, in a dead heat with Republican hopeful George Allen, former governor and senator.

Polls are open in Virginia between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Eastern time.
