National Autism Awareness Month has come to a close, but its mission to educate the public and inspire empathy remains relevant. With that in mind, we asked people who have a brother or sister on the spectrum to share what they wish others understood about their lives.
In the video above, they explain the false assumptions people make about their siblings with autism, the challenges they face in their family dynamic and what their brothers and sisters have taught them.
One girl says of her little brother on the spectrum, "I just want the best for him and for him to be a good person."
Sibling relationships are truly special, no matter what disorder you have.
