I'm a pet owner.

Actually, to be politically-correct, I am an animal guardian. I am the proud caretaker of Annie, a terrier mix I adopted seven years ago from a rescue agency. I'm not alone. According to a recent BusinessWeek cover story, about 63 percent of U.S. households, or 71 million homes, now have at least one pet; and we spend an astonishing $41 billion annually on our pets.

We all have great stories about our pets, how they bring us joy, are our pals, protect us, make us laugh, and so much more. But I just spotted a news story that I encourage pet guardians and civilians alike to enjoy -- just for a break in the news cycle action.

This is the story about a family in West Virginia spending the last four days trying to rescue their 14-year Dalmation who fell in a hole. A local television station, KLTV, has video of the rescue.

We all need these kinds of stories from time to time. Follow the link and enjoy....
