'House': House Lies To See Who He Can Trust

Everybody lies. That's Dr. House's mantra, and he proved it this week by playing a trick of sorts on his team in the latest "House" (Mon., 9 p.m. ET on Fox). As with most everything he does, though, it was a test. In this case, House was trying to determine who on his team he could trust and who he couldn't.

So he faked liver disease, knowing the team would sneak around -- as he'd trained them to do -- to get a positive diagnosis. Then he needed only wait until Foreman confronted him and said, "Until you receive a clean bill of health, I'll be authorizing all treatment orders."

At this, House knew someone had ratted him out, so it was only a matter of time to deduce who it was. Especially when first Taub, then Adams and finally Chase all admitted to telling Foreman. Using a real rat, though, House confronted Chase as the real rat.

"You wanted me to tell Foreman," Chase argued. "Your ability to solve puzzles is the only thing that matters to you. And you're smart enough to know even you'll lose your edge at some point. You want to make sure someone's there when you do."

Whether he's right or not, House didn't say. All he did say was that he'd put a lot more rats into the floorboards of Chase's apartment. So was Chase right, or just trying to justify his betrayal to himself?

Of course, as Brad struggles to tell Jane something important; Jane tries to find a way to help Eric hide the fact that the pricey reception must be downscaled; and Max tries to find the courage to perform with his old all-male Madonna cover band. Meanwhile, a dateless Penny is sad that she's at another wedding, alone, until she meets cute guy Chris (Brian Austin Green) via Skype.
