'Vampire Diaries' Premiere: Did Elena Become A Vampire?
|

The fourth season of "The Vampire Diaries" kicked off Thursday night, and faced the looming question from last season's finale. After dying with vampire blood in her system, did Elena complete her transformation into a vampire by drinking human blood?

Bonnie failed in her attempts to retrieve the part of Elena's soul that is in the realm of the dead, while Elena found herself captured by the town council, along with Stefan and Rebekah. With time running out -- if Elena didn't feed, she'd die -- Rebekah and Stefan tricked a guard into getting too close and killed him. Elena was able to reach out and drink his blood as it pooled around him.

And thus, the regular girl who was at the center of the series for the first three seasons is no more, replaced by a new vampire. Everything will change between her and everything she's ever known, and with the secret out about the town's vampires and werewolves, it looks like this promises to be a season that pushes the show in a wildly new direction.

Keep up with all the twists and turns of "The Vampire Diaries," Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
