John Oliver Hilariously Explains Why Closing Guantanamo Is No Lock

"We're basically Cuba's grandparents."

President Barack Obama has not made good on his pledge to close the Guantanamo Bay military prison, so “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver broke out a few reasons why.

In a 20-minute segment Sunday that focused on the absurdities, he noted that the United States has been paying Cuba $4,085 in annual rent for the property.

“We’ve barely been talking to Cuba,” he said. “We disagree with their politics. And yet every year we send them checks for hilariously small amounts of money. We’re basically Cuba’s grandparents.”

Oliver also pointed out that the deodorant for the inmates bears the unfortunate brand name of “Maximum Security.”

“It would be like a Holiday Inn Express calling its complimentary lotion ‘Tearful Masturbation,’” he said.

Watch the clip above, and stick around to see him finally mention a certain Republican presidential nominee. It’s worth the punch line.
