NBC Reveals New Details On 'The Office' Spinoff

Want a little more insight into the inner-workings of Schrute farms? NBC is working on making it happen.

At the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour on Wednesday, NBC president Jennifer Salke opened up about the "Office" spinoff centered on the show's beloved character Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), reportedly called, "The Farm."

"Rainn (Wilson) came in and talked about what he wanted to do with the spinoff, and they made the decision at the show to incorporate it as an episode," Salke revealed to Hitfix. "Just yesterday, I went to see the first and second episode table reads for 'The Office,' where I could see that starting to percolate in Rainn's story. They're leading up to that, but I don't have any creative material on the spinoff yet."

Salke also revealed that fans of "The Office" won't necessarily have to wait for the series to end for the launch of the spinoff. But former "Office" showrunner Paul Lieberstein is leaving the series to work on the Dwight Schrute spinoff.

"We couldn't box ourselves in in that way [of saying 'The Office' definitely ends when the spinoff starts]," Salke said. "But I think the series and the spinoff could co-exist."

“Paul [Liberstein] and Rainn have been joking for years about Dwight’s life on the farm, his family and how ill-suited he is to run a B&B,” a source reportedly told Deadline in January. “A while ago, it started to feel like a show to them. NBC agreed, it’s been further developed to include multiple generations, many cousins and neighbors. At its base it will be about a family farm struggling to survive and a family trying to stay together.”
