This Hotel Took Water Bed To A Whole New Level

Shrimp may not sound like the cuddliest of creatures, but we think an evening among them looks pretty sweet.

The glass-bottomed bedroom at the Udang House at Bali's Bambu Indah resort lets you snooze above a tranquil underwater landscape.

The room sits above a shrimp pond, with tempered glass floor panels revealing an "underwater panorama of crustaceans in action."

When they're not being dazzled by the underwater bedroom, guests at Udang House can take a refreshing open-air shower in the glass-roofed bathroom, or relax on the house's front porch.

Udang House is one of Bambu Indah's 14 private restored antique houses guests can book. The eco-luxury resort offers a spa, hiking, village tours, yoga and other restorative activities.

Eighteen floors above Manhattan's most exclusive private park sits Gramercy Terrace, a restaurant-turned-event space that—in its nearly hundred-year history—has hosted a wealth of high-profile engagements, including the weddings of actor Humphrey Bogart and designer Narciso Rodriguez. Its indoor-outdoor rooftop garden mixes tropical plants with 20th-century masterpieces. (The unofficial "Warhol Room" houses nine portraits by the artist.) Venice may be better known for its waterways than its green spaces, but guests can experience the best of both worlds at this former 16th-century palazzo, which was restored and reopened by Amanresorts in 2013. In transforming the site of the 16th-century San Agustin Convent to a luxury hotel (which opened in 2012), developer Inversiones La Rioja used GPS trackers to ensure that the interior courtyard retained its original dimensions. Today the once-sanctified space serves as a haven for guests eager to refuel and recharge after days spent exploring nearby Incan treasures. While lounging on sofas upholstered in regional fabrics, guests can dine on traditional dishes like lomo saltado (Peruvian beef stir-fry) and causa peruana (regional trout with yellow potatoes), then order pisco sours made from one of several infused piscos (including passion fruit, coconut and chile pepper). As you step into the breathtaking terraced gardens at Hotel de Russie, which cascade toward Rome's Villa Borghese, it's easy to understand why this "secret" space is a favorite among Hollywood A-listers, including George Clooney and Charlize Theron. The newly rebuilt Great House on Sir Richard Branson's private-island resort, Necker Island, is a Balinese-style open-air building that replaces the one that burned down in 2011 after being struck by lightening in a tropical storm. It features more square footage and larger terraces (three levels of them) than the original, plus an abundance of natural splendor. Island guests can set their own mealtimes and enjoy dishes prepared by Michelin-trained chefs and served on one of the terraces or outdoor pavilions under the stars. Green space is precious in a metropolis as densely packed as Tokyo—which is what makes the 17 acres of botanical gardens found at the Hotel Chinzanso (formerly a Four Seasons property) a true urban treasure. In 2013 the hotel debuted its new Serenity Garden, a 16,000-square-foot open-air pavilion that overlooks Chinzanso's extensive grounds, spiritual buildings and artifacts, as well as the downtown skyline.
