Florence + The Machine has released "Breath of Life," the first official single off the upcoming summer flick "Snow White And The Huntsman," and singer Florence Welch's voice seem like the perfect fit for the dark fairy tale epic.
"Breath of Life" is one of Florence + The Machine's more cinematic tracks, with a large orchestral accompaniment, pounding drums, and chilling vocals. "I was looking for a breath of life / A little touch of heavenly light / But all the choirs in my head say no," Welch sings on the chorus.
The ominous track was reportedly inspired by the film's character evil Queen Ravenna, played by Charlize Theron. "The Queen is just this incredible character; so hungry for life but so dead inside," said Welch. "She's sort of eternal, but inside there's nothing ... She has this thirst for youth and for life, but for what kind of life? This darkness, but she's so beautiful, so it's this kind of juxtaposition between beauty and, ultimately, death."
Expect the "Snow White and the Huntsman" soundtrack to hit shelves on May 29. The full track listing has not yet been released. The film comes out on June 1.
