Today marks the birthday of an incongruous pair. Perennial Rolling Stone, Keith Richards, turns 66 while overwrought chanteuse, Christina Aguilera, is the ripe old age of 29.
They may seem from opposite worlds: Aguilera, the product of "Star Search" and Richards, the result of chemical experimentation. However, the two have more in common than one might suspect. Dig if you will:
BOTH ARE SLAVES TO FASHION
Aguilera's multiple fashion endorsements are well known. She has lent
her name to Versace, inspired a jewelry line, and released a fragrance
line. Meanwhile, Richards - who has worn the same headband for the past
ten years - posed for a Louis Vutton ad in 2008. The fashionable luggage
is probably resistant to cigarette butts.
BOTH ARE WANNABE RASTAFARIANS
Aguilera made an animated cameo in the film "Shark Tale" as a Rastafari jellyfish. Meanwhile, Richards channels the spirit of a rastaman with his hair adornments and love of Jamaica and its weed (the Stones have recorded in Jamaica off and on since the '70s).
BOTH GET STAGE TIME WITH MICK
Aguilera got some stage time with the Stones in the Martin Scorsese concert doc, "Shine a Light," singing the "Let It Bleed" album cut "Live WIth Me." Keith didn't seem impressed with the vocal histrionics.
BOTH LOVE THE BLUES
The Rolling Stones owe their career to the blues with Richards famously championing Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry and other blues-rock forefathers. Aguilera cites blues great Etta James as her inspiration.Chicgo blues runs through both of their veins.
BOTH ARE GIFTED SOPRANOS
Well…Keith was a gifted soprano. As a child, Keef was drafted into the boys choir at Dartmouth Technical School. He even got to perform in front of Queen Elizabeth II. Needless to say, the booze, smokes, and smack took a tool on his pristine voice. Meanwhile, soprano Aguilera skipped the choir but held onto the vocal range.
