Nora Ephron's movie scripts contain some of the most quoted lines of dialogue in film history. Ephron, who tragically passed away on Tuesday, due to complications from the blood disorder myelodysplasia, at the age of 71, was responsible for "When Harry Met Sally," "Sleepless in Seattle," "You've Got Mail," "My Blue Heaven" and "Julie & Julia," among thirteen produced screenplays. Not only did Ephron give voice to Meg Ryan -- and make her a superstar in the process -- she provided a generation of female writers, from Mindy Kaling, who previously blogged under the pseudonym Mindy Ephron, to "New Girl" showrunner Liz Meriwether, with a template for creating smart female protagonists.

Ephron was nominated for three Academy Awards as a screenwriter (for "Silkwood," "When Harry Met Sally" and "Sleepless in Seattle"), and she also directed eight films -- including her iconic romantic comedies "Sleepless in Seattle" and "You've Got Mail," two of the top-25 biggest grossing movies ever produced in the genre. Her last film, 2009's "Julie & Julia," earned $129.5 million around the world.

The prolific director, screenwriter and author also inspired an entire generation of young directors, including Nicholas Stoller. Before starting production on "The Five-Year Engagement," Stoller had a conversation with Ephron, who he called an "idol."

"'When Harry Met Sally' is kind of a dark movie," Stoller told The Huffington Post in April. "It's sweet and it ends beautifully and romantic, but those are two pretty messed up characters. They're pretty flawed. They do pretty nasty things to each other. It goes to a dark, pretty real place between them. That's why it's a classic. [Screenwriter] Nora Ephron does not pull her punches in that movie."
