War is here and so are the numbers! "Game of Thrones" Season 2 debuted to quite a sizable audience for HBO. According to EW, 3.9 million viewers watched the Season 2 premiere on Sun., April 1, making it the show's biggest audience yet.
In the key 18-49 demographic, "Game of Thrones" boasted 2.5 million viewers, which is almost four times the viewership that AMC's "The Killing" earns in the demo.
After factoring in the rebroadcasts, 6.3 million viewers watched the "Game of Thrones" Season 2 premiere. It's not "The Walking Dead" numbers, but it certainly means "Game of Thrones" will be back for a third season, especially considering the viewership of HBO's other shows. Laura Dern's "Enlightened" didn't crack a million viewers, but was renewed for a second season. Its highest-rated episode -- the Season 1 finale -- had 260,000 viewers. "True Blood," HBO's best performer, averaged about 5 million viewers during its fourth season. Season 5 debuts this June.
In 2011, "Game of Thrones" premiered to 2.2 million viewers. During the first season, the show stayed above the 2 million viewer mark. More than 3 million viewers watched the Season 1 finale in June 2011.
