The "August: Osage County" clan revs up its fighting in the new trailer for the forthcoming Oscar contender, which is based on Tracy Lett's Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Meryl Streep seems to have an amplified presence in the latest clip, which could be a result of the awards campaign The Weinstein Company is attempting to stage for the actress. Thankfully, it makes her argumentative Violet Weston, the matriarch of the family reuniting for a funeral, all the more enticing.
What Streep's and co-star Julia Roberts' Oscar fate will look like it all but a mystery. The two actresses have consistently flip-flopped on which will be targeted for a lead nomination and which will go up for supporting. (GoldDerby reported at the start of the week that Streep will return to lead and Roberts will bump down to supporting, which would pit the latter against early frontrunner Oprah Winfrey.) Then again, the conversation could be for naught if Margo Martindale comes up from behind and steals the spotlight. We'll find out more on Dec. 25 when "August" hits theaters.
