Forty-four years after it splashed into theaters, "Yellow Submarine" has been re-released on Blu-ray. Judging by the exclusive clip available at the bottom of this article, the fully restored version of the Beatles' psychedelic journey is a true gem.

Despite the Beatles' initial unwillingness to work on the film (they weren't too pleased with "Help!"), "Yellow Submarine" became a critical and commercial success. The movie, which pairs voice actors playing John, Paul, Ringo and George with the actual Beatles' singing voices, sees the band on a quest to save Pepperland from the evil Blue Meanies. Of course, Sgt. Pepper, Jeremy Hilary Boob (PhD!), Old Fred and others make appearances as well.

This version features a high definition transfer based on the original film's negatives, which were restored by hand.

The clip below is from the Sea of Holes scene, the final region the troupe visits before arriving in Pepperland. Take a look below and let us know what you think of the footage's facelift in the comments below.
