The trial of Amanda Knox, which made headlines around the world, has been fictionalized in a new film called "Face Of An Angel."
A sneak peek of the film was featured on Variety Tuesday. With Knox’s latest guilty conviction on Jan. 30, the movie is set to be the buzz of the European Film Market in Berlin, where it will be looking for buyers this week.
Directed by Michael Winterbottom, “Face of An Angel” is loosely based on journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau’s book, Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox. Co-produced by BBC Films, the film features some noteworthy stars including Kate Beckinsale, Daniel Bruhl and model Cara Delevingne.
The film revolves around struggling filmmaker Thomas (Bruhl) who is adapting a film based on a book about the murder trial. Through the media circus surrounding the case and his own personal crisis, "[Thomas] becomes increasingly disturbed by the dark medieval atmosphere surrounding the case and begins to fall into his own personal hell,” Variety notes. He then meets love interest Melanie, a British student played by Delevingne.
Through the lens of the Knox trial, Winterbottom comments on society's penchant for violence and the spectacle of a renowned murder trial. We won't give away the rest, but from the first look, the film will likely surpass the Jodi Arias biopic.
This, of course, is not the first film inspired by the trial. In 2011, Lifetime debuted an adaptation of Knox's story titled "Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy," starring Hayden Panettiere.
