Leah Remini Files Missing Person Report For Scientology Leader's Wife

Actress Leah Remini has not only split from the Church of Scientology, but she is also taking action against the controversial group by looking for answers about leader David Miscavige's wife, Shelly.

Remini filed a missing person report for Shelly, who has not been seen in public for seven years, on Wednesday, a source close to the actress told The Hollywood Reporter. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to THR that an investigation is ongoing.

“Our missing persons unit informed us that Leah Remini did file a missing person report on a Shelly Miscavige,” a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told RadarOnline.com. “That is all we are going to say at this time.”

Scientology blogger Tony Ortega was the first to report the news about Remini on Thursday. He was also the first to report that part of the former "King of Queens" star's split from Scientology roots back to her raising questions about Shelly's apparent disappearance. Shelly has not been seen in public since 2006.

The New York Post reported Remini was interrogated after she began inquiring about Shelly's whereabouts.

“When you ask a question, like, ‘Where is Shelly?,’ you are immediately hauled in, interrogated and asked, ‘Why are you asking, who are you connected to, are you going on the Internet?’" a source told the newspaper.

Ortega writes that in early 2006 Shelly was sent from Scientology's headquarters in Hemet, Calif., to a compound in the mountains near Lake Arrowhead. This residence is reportedly only home to around 12 Scientologists who have been completely cut off from the outside world.

In a statement to Radar, the church denied anything suspicious.

“Mrs. Miscavige is a private person and her affairs are a private matter," a church official wrote. "She continues to work in the Church as she always has."

UPDATE: 8/9 7:39 a.m. -- The LAPD has closed the missing person case involving Shelly Miscavige because officers had a face-to-face meeting with her, TMZ reported. They determined the claim she is missing was "unfounded."
