Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor were announced on Thursday (Jan. 16) morning. Nominees include Barkhad Abdi ("Captain Phillips"), Jonah Hill ("The Wolf of Wall Street"), Jared Leto ("Dallas Buyers Club"), Bradley Cooper ("American Hustle") and Michael Fassbender ("12 Years a Slave").
This year's roster includes some familiar faces from the Golden Globes, including Jared Leto, whose performance as Rayon in "Dallas Buyers Club" won the supporting actor award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association last weekend, topping the likes of Bradley Cooper in "American Hustle" and Michael Fassbender in "12 Years a Slave."
Christoph Waltz took home the trophy for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at last year's Academy Awards for his performance in "Django Unchained." He defeated Alan Arkin for "Argo," Robert De Niro for "Silver Linings Playbook," Philip Seymour Hoffman for "The Master" and Tommy Lee Jones for "Lincoln." Previous winners of Best Supporting Actor include Christopher Plummer, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, who received a posthumous award for his performance in "The Dark Knight."
The Academy Awards, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres on March 2 will air on ABC.
