Happy 70th birthday, George Harrison!

The lead guitarist of the Beatles died of lung cancer in 2001, but his legacy as a member of music's most popular band lives on. A longtime advocate for spiritual mysticism and a prominent member of the Hare Krishna movement, Harrison wrote a handful of popular Beatles tracks, including "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something." He also ran a successful solo career, with his 1970 album "All Things Must Pass" serving as a steadfast No. 1 hit. Throughout his fame, Harrison was a quote magnet, often waxing poetic on the meaning of life and even once comparing the Beatles' fame to a male version of the Spice Girls.

In remembrance of the legendary rocker, here are some of our favorite George Harrison quotes.

"Why live in the darkness all your life? Why, if you are unhappy, if you are having a miserable time, why not just look at it? Why are you in the darkness? Look for the light. The light is within." (credit:Alamy)
