As a continuation of the "Texas Chainsaw" storyline, "Texas Chainsaw 3D" fell painfully short of its iconic predecessors. From weak acting to undeveloped characters and a tired plot, critics found numerous faults in the first wide-release film of 2013. Even HuffPost Entertainment's Mike Ryan had his own "urgent questions" after watching the film. "Gangster Squad" was marked negatively for its gratuitous violence as well as a shapeless storyline that Rick Groen said left the film "disposable." And when it came to "A Haunted House," not even the Wayans brothers could save the comedic mess.
In music, Conor Maynard's "Contrast" received some of the strongest reviews of the week. He was praised for a pop-friendly sound that brought him comparisons to Justin Bieber. But many critics felt Maynard had diluted his talent. Black Veil Brides' "Wretched And Divine: The Story Of The Wild Ones" appears to have been mislabeled as a metal album and the robust, often blaring tracks of Dropkick Murphy's "Signed and Sealed in Blood" seemed like too much of a good thing for most reviewers.
