Linus Roache On How 'Titanic' Miniseries Is Different From Movie

"Law & Order" veteran Linus Roache is starring in "Titanic," the miniseries from "Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes that commemorates the 100 year anniversary of the ship's sinking by telling the story from many different perspectives. Friday on "GMA," Roache explained how the unique narrative device the mini-series uses to tell the story -- in each of the 4 installments, the Titanic hits the iceberg -- differentiates it from James Cameron's epic movie "Titanic," which has also been re-released in 3D to mark the historical milestone.

"There's no point in competing with James Cameron's movie, it's a movie we all love. We all love Kate and Leo, so the idea was to do something very different and tell the story of the whole ship," Roache told George Stephanopoulos.

"One of the great ideas that Julian Fellowes, the writer of this piece had -- we all know that it hits the iceberg, we all know that it goes down -- so he found a narrative style of every episode we're going to hit the iceberg, and every episode you're going to go back on the ship and view from a different perspective. You'll see some scenes twice, you'll see them over again but from different points of view with new information," he explained.

Roache plays a fictional character named Lord Manton in the miniseries, a passenger traveling in first class. While his character is "rich and glamorous," he emphasized that this version of "Titanic" will also tell the story from the perspective of "people in steerage looking for a new life in America."

"Titanic" airs Sat., Apr. 14, at 8 p.m. ET and Sun., Apr. 15, 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

June ingeniously turns the tables on Chloe, who is so shocked about being scammed herself that she decides to pull June into her colorful band of friends.
