Matt Damon: Philip Seymour Hoffman Was A 'Beautiful Person'
|

Matt Damon got emotional while talking about his friend, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, on "Late Show." Damon and Hoffman co-starred in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" back in 1999, and Hoffman made a real impact on Damon. He said that working with Hoffman may have been his best experience to date.

Hoffman was found dead Sunday in New York of an apparent drug overdose.

Last year, Damon and Hoffman reunited with fellow "Ripley" co-star Cate Blanchett one night when they were all working on films overseas. "He went into rehab after I had dinner with him a month later and I was as shocked as anybody to read about it.

"He had a lot of great stuff left to do," Damon said. On "Good Morning America," Damon said that Hoffman was "one of the best actors to ever live, without a doubt. Without a doubt. And he was an even better person. He was a beautiful, beautiful person."

"Late Show with David Letterman" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EST on CBS.
