'Open Letter' Remix Sees Common Joining Jay-Z For Much Of The Same (AUDIO)

Jay-Z's 'Open Letter' Gets A High-Profile Remix

Turns out Common jumped on a remix of Jay-Z's "Open Letter." Released Monday, the track features the Chicago rapper joining Hov, but the song is just more of the same: distaste for politicians, support of Jay-Z's trip, etc.

Released last Thursday, the original "Open Letter" is a diss track that takes aim at conservative politicians who wanted to open an investigation into Jay-Z and Beyonce's anniversary trip to Cuba (also up for mocking: critics of Jay's plans to liquidate his minority stake in the Brooklyn Nets to open a sports management agency). The politico's plans evaporated when the Treasury Department revealed that it had authorized the trip, but the criticism didn't.

In a sternly worded follow-up "open letter," director Phil Lord blasted the track as "nihilism with a beat." "When I saw that the Carters were in Cuba, I got that pang that I get when I hear friends say they are traveling there," Lord told the Huffington Post. "At first I gave the Carters the benefit of the doubt, but after Jay-Z's latest single dropped, I thought I had to speak my mind."

Listen to Common and Jay's new track above and let us know what you think in the comments.
