Burt Reynolds Really Regrets Posing Nude For Cosmopolitan

"No, it was really stupid. I don't know what I was thinking."
|

We all have our regrets.

Burt Reynolds wishes the world never saw him buck naked on a bearskin rug for Cosmopolitan.

"Yeah, I wish I hadn't done that," the 80-year-old actor told "What to Watch" host Ricky Camilleri at SXSW festival, where Reynolds is promoting "The Bandit," a documentary about his friendship with Hal Needham.

"No, it was really stupid. I don't know what I was thinking," he said of the photo taken in 1972. "Probably knowing me, I was like, 'You won't do that, you chicken' ... That's all I had to hear, of course."

The actor went on to say he agreed to to the photo as long as it involved showing only a certain amount of pubic hair.

"The only rule I had is that I wanted a lot of drinks before because I was a little bit, you know," he said, with his voice trailing off before he dropped this truth bomb:

"Well, I have to be truthful. I was totally zonkered when we did that picture. And that stupid smile, that's what it is."

Of course, his appearance in Cosmo is far from his only regret. In November, the “Smokey and the Bandit” star got candid in an interview with Vanity Fair. Reynolds called actress Sally Field, whom he dated on and off for five years starting in the late '70s, the “love of my life.”

“I miss her terribly,” he told the magazine. “Even now, it’s hard on me. I don’t know why I was so stupid. Men are like that, you know. You find the perfect person, and then you do everything you can to screw it up.”

But despite the heartache he continues to suffer, Reynolds told Vanity Fair that the breakup still doesn’t top the list of biggest regrets:

Before leaving Valhalla, I ask Reynolds to name his greatest regret. “I would have spent more money and had a lot more fun,” he says.

“Is that even possible?”

“Yeah,” he says, and smiles. “It’s always possible to spend more money.”
