Eddie Izzard is in talks to star in and produce NBC's "The Munsters" reboot. According to EW, Izzard would play Grandpa Munster in "Mockingbird Lane." TVLine confirmed Izzard's casting talks.
The actor had a starring role in FX's 2007 series "The Riches" and was last seen on the small screen in "The United States of Tara" and "The Good Wife."
"Mockingbird Lane," a modern take on the wacky '60s sitcom, "The Munsters," hails from "Pushing Daises" veteran Bryan Fuller. NBC originally ordered the pilot in November with production slated for spring 2012, but the network pushed development back until this summer to allow for more creative tinkering. "X-Men" director Bryan Singer is attached to direct the pilot and serve as executive producer. Fuller began working on the reboot in 2010.
Following the two original seasons of the CBS comedy, "The Munsters" had several TV movies and a spin-off series that ran from 1988-1991. "The Munsters Today" served as a sequel to the original series. NBC's new take on the franchise is being described as a reimagination of the series as a one-hour drama.
