'Downton Abbey' Season 6 Trailer Previews An Emotional Goodbye

The Crawleys kick off their farewell tour.

As "Downton Abbey" fans are well aware, the period drama's upcoming sixth season will be its last. A new trailer for the season, which premieres in the U.K. on Sept. 20, serves as a poignant farewell for its loyal viewers.

In the minute-long promo, Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville) tells Mr. Carson (Jim Carter), “If I could stop history in its tracks, maybe I would. But I can’t, Carson, for neither you nor I can hold back time.”

"Downton" producers announced in March that the sixth season would be its last.

"We wanted to close the doors of 'Downton Abbey' when it felt right and natural for the storylines to come together and when the show was still being enjoyed so much by its fans," director Gareth Neame explained. "We can promise a final season full of all the usual drama and intrigue, but with the added excitement of discovering how and where they all end up."

Fans can also look forward to the possibility of a "Downton Abbey" movie. "It is definitely something that we're contemplating," Neame said in March. "It would be great fun to do. I think it would be a great extension of everything we love about the TV show."

Fingers crossed, people!
