James Gandolfini and his girlfriend, Deborah Lin, were recently spotted at the Asiate restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental at Columbus Circle with the Republican presidential candidate, his wife, Cindy, and p.r. guru Laurance Gay, who set up the meeting.

Gandolfini interviewed severely injured Iraq war veterans for the recently released HBO special, "Alive Day Memories." A source said McCain, a Vietnam vet who was seriously injured and then tortured as a prisoner of war, raved over the documentary to Gandolfini, while the actor expressed his gratitude to McCain and the other vets for their sacrifices for the country.

Before appetizers were even served, Gandolfini turned to his dinner companions and quipped, "I have spent more time with Republicans so far tonight than I have in my entire life." Our source said, "McCain is one Republican Gandolfini could support."
