Matthew McConaughey Is Nothing Like His Rom-Com Characters, Says Wife Camila Alves

Matthew McConaughey Ruins Rom-Coms For Women Everywhere
|

Before his recent impressive streak of serious roles in "Dallas Buyers Club," "True Detective," "Wolf of Wall Street" and the likes, Matthew McConaughey was known for his sappy (but fan favorite) rom-coms. Movies like "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," "Failure to Launch," and "The Wedding Planner" gave women everywhere an image of the ideal guy in mind. That is, until now.

In an appearance on "Inside the Actors Studio," McConaughey was revealed to be nothing like the sweet, caring gentleman he used to portray on screen.

McConaughey wife, model Camila Alves, was in the audience when her husband spoke of his craft. When asked if his offscreen demeanor resembles his onscreen, rom-com persona, Alves revealed that "It's very funny because people see him onscreen or out there in public in a certain way, and they have this vision of him being this romantic and so passionate. Just very romantic and grabs you and kisses you. And sometimes I'm like, 'Who is this guy? Can you be a little bit of that?' Sometimes I'm like, 'Can we bring that guy home for a little bit?'"

Dreams shattered.

McConaughey, 44, did manage to salvage some romance when James Lipton asked the two how they met and if it was love at first sight. "It was for me!" the actor said to the mother of his three children.

"That's the first time you've said that," Alves replied.

You guys. Too sweet!

The two met at a bar in 2006 and got married in 2012.

"We focused three years on our marriage and found that it brought us an even stronger bond and connection. But like anything great and successful in your life, marriage takes hard work and sacrifice. It has to be something both you and your husband deeply want. The best thing about marriage is the amount of growth you have because you can no longer hide from your fears and insecurities. There's someone right there calling you out on your flaws and building you up when you need the support. "Can't say enough about how special of a woman I have. It takes a lot to endure the worst of times and still stay grounded during the best of times. She's been able to do so for long as I can remember. For all that and more, I just adore her in every way. I love her spirit, her heart, her integrity and her loyalty. She's the love of my life and the girl of my dreams. I've heard so much about it being hard for true love to exist in the fast lanes of Hollywood, when dudes can't stay respectfully committed and chicks can't stay out their man's pockets. But somehow she makes it easy, and we never had those problem." - T.I. (credit:Getty)
