'Star Trek Into Darkness': Spock Knows 'The Needs Of The Many Outweigh The Needs Of The Few' (VIDEO)

Exclusive New 'Star Trek' Clip Recalls Classic Franchise Moment

The "Star Trek Into Darkness" promotional push has done a great job at teasing those fans wondering if this "Star Trek" sequel will, in any way, connect to the last direct "Star Trek" sequel, "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." (Note this still from the film's first trailer.)

A brand-new clip from the film -- debuting exclusively here at HuffPost Entertainment and our sister site Moviefone -- continues to stoke those "Wrath of Khan" flames.

The scene, set on the bridge of the USS Enterprise, finds Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and his trusty crew (returning cast members Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Simon Pegg) trying to save Spock (Zachary Quinto) from a fiery death inside an active volcano. The problem? Logical Vulcan Spock won't allow the crew to blow their cover and rescue him. As Spock says, in a nod to "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan," the "needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

"Star Trek Into Darkness" is one of this summer's most anticipated releases -- and not just for the "Wrath of Khan" stuff. The film is a sequel to J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek," which made $385 million around the globe in 2009. "Star Trek Into Darkness" is out in select IMAX theaters on May 15 and opens nationwide on May 17. For more information on J.J. Abrams' newest film, follow the official "Star Trek" movie Facebook page and Twitter account.
