The Final 'Game Of Thrones' Season Might Get Massive Delay

Winter might not come until 2019.

Time to play the waiting “Game.”

Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” was already delayed this year so production could get colder weather to film in. That’s been tough enough. Now it turns out the wait for the final season may be even longer.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, HBO programming president Casey Bloys conceded that Season 8, which is only six episodes long, may not air until 2019 if showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss need that amount of time.

“Yeah. They have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule,” Bloys said. “We’ll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing,”

Also, if you’re looking forward to those “Game of Thrones” spinoffs, you might want to sit down for this.

Bloys first said forget all that nonsense about there being four different spinoffs. There’s likely just going to be one. But even that isn’t the focus right now. HBO just wants to send off the show in the right way.

“You’re not going to see a situation where the next show in the Thrones universe launches off the back of this one,” he added.

OK, now for the good news: The delay should be worth it.

In a March interview, Kit Harington, the King in the North himself, told HuffPost that the final two seasons of “Game of Thrones” will “break boundaries.”

(Perhaps one of those “boundaries” is a certain giant wall that’s theorized to be coming down?)

Bloys also hyped up Season 7 to EW, saying, “I don’t want to oversell, but I can’t imagine anybody being disappointed in this season. It’s amazing.”

Get ready, everyone. The final two seasons aren’t going to be spokes on a wheel. They’re going to break the wheel!
