No Doubt, Gwen Stefani and her reunited band of ska rockers is back with another single. "Push and Shove," which Ryan Seacrest debuted Wednesday, sees Diplo blending ska, dub and reggae into a track which verges dangerously close to dubstep.
After a few Major Lazer callouts, the track veers through a number of genres. There's the aforementioned reggae (bolstered by verses from Busy Signal), which Diplo knows a thing or two about (he just produced Snoop Lion's upcoming reggae LP). The chorus features Stefani crooning over an instrumental breakdown that perhaps best recalls -- don't hate us -- Evanaescence. It's at this point in the song that Diplo's experiencing in dub and rounded-out bass is seen most clearly, as the band's instruments are bent into a live take on the typical dubstep breakdown.
The band previously released "Settle Down," a "ruff and tuff" anthem that was promptly remixed by Diplo (under his Major Lazer moniker). Both tracks are off Push and Shove, No Doubt's highly anticipated return to form. The album is the band's sixth studio release and currently expected in stores on Sept. 25.
